TARRYTOWN,
N.Y., September. 6, 2002 - SPAR Group has raised more than $500,000 in the last
seven years, and $90,000 this summer alone, to fight child abuse by sponsoring
the Pierre Larouche Invitational Golf Tournament at Ardsley Country Club in
Westchester County, N.Y. SPAR Vice Chairman Bill Bartels thanked Larouche, 130
participating golfers and many contributors for their enthusiasm and
involvement.
The
SPAR Golf Tournament benefits The Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center
of New York, Inc. based in nearby White Plains. The Center was founded in 1982
to help reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect, break the generational
abuse cycle and strengthen the parent-child relationship. It provides volunteer
counselors to local families and connects families with support agencies and
networks.
Hockey
legend Pierre Larouche has been active with the SPAR Golf Tournament and The
Exchange Club Center since 1989. He played 14 years in the National Hockey
League with the New York Rangers and Hartford, Montreal, Pittsburgh and two
All-Star teams. He was the only player in NHL history to score 40+ goals for
three different teams. Career-wise, he has three Stanley Cup rings, played 812
games and scored 395 goals and 427 assists.
Larouche
now competes on the Celebrity Golf Association Tour, where he's sponsored by
SPAR Group. He's one of the lowest scorers on the Tour and won the Dodge
Shootout two years in a row.
SPAR
has enthusiastically supported this golf tournament for 14 years. Many
employees from their Tarrytown headquarters and national field offices
participate. SPAR is a marketing services company that provides retail
merchandising, database marketing, market research, eTraining, teleservices and
sales information to American business.
